David Pflieger- Best Airline Food

The airline industry has come under fire for several reasons in the past decade or so. Customer service issues, overselling of flights, incredibly strict security measures have all combined to create some less-than-favorable feelings towards the industry. One of the most often joked about issues plaguing airplanes for decades is the lack of decent meals. Sure, airlines have provided meals for hungry travelers, but the quality of the meals has been the subject of a many-a-spoof. However, it turns out that there are some incredibly phenomenal dishes that are provided during flights; unfortunately, these meals are only served on First-Class flights, meaning the general public does not have the pleasure of enjoying these delectable dishes. That being said, I figured I would highlight a few of these spectacular meals that are so rarely seen.

Emirates

This airline’s selection of meals was specially designed by one of the world’s most renowned chefs: Dom Perignon. The elegant menu is comprised of hors d’oeuvres made of lobster and feta, a main dish consisting of lamb shank and a raspberry coulis for dessert. If that doesn’t make your mouth water, I don’t know what will. To make things even more interesting, that is only one possible menu, as the airline’s offerings change on a monthly basis.

Air France

Air France might be the only airline on this list whose dinnerware is more decadent than the dish itself. Although the menu rotates on a bi-monthly basis, previous meals include Atlantic lobster and caviar. The meals are served on tabletop pieces that are specifically designed for the airline by world-famous chef Jean-Marie Massaud. The glassware is even more luxurious featuring Christofle glasses and Bernardaud porcelain plates. You’ll feel like you’re eating at a five-star restaurant.

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines has one of the greatest menus of any airline in-service. The airline offers a “Book the Cook” feature, which allows passengers to order their meal 24-hours before the flight. What makes the meals even better is the fact that they are all themed based on the destination. For example, if your destination was Italy, your menu options would all be Italy themed. It is a great way to eat well and to get excited for your trip.
